Why Are These Pages Black?
One day back in -- what was it? -- 1995? -- Web pages all over the world (there must have been thousands of them by then!) went black to protest the restrictions on free speech imposed by the federal Communications Decency Act. The Act was later declared unconstituional, but for a few of us the color stuck. The fight's never completely over, and if you're given to thinking about such things, you may want to contact the Electronic Freedom Foundation and get a blue ribbon of your own:
